About Jib

Jib is built by Thomas Horsey, an independent developer in Queensland, Australia.

It started with a simple frustration: every home job begins with the same questions. Can I do this myself? Am I even allowed to? What do I need to buy, and how much of it? The answers were scattered across tradie blogs trying to sell a call-out, hardware-store guides that say “check your state’s rules”, and forum threads from 2014.

Jib puts the answers in one place. Photograph a job and the app drafts the steps, the materials list and a cost range, and flags the parts that need a licensed tradie. Then it keeps every job, shopping list and before-and-after photo organised by room.

How we write our guides

• Official sources first. Rules about licensing and approvals come from the state regulator, the legislation or the official planning portal — and every guide lists those sources at the bottom.
• Dated. Every guide shows the date its rules were last checked against those sources. Legal guides are re-checked regularly.
• Honest about the limits. Where the answer is “you need a licensed tradie”, we say so plainly, even though it means you won’t do that part yourself.
• No paid placements. No sponsored products, no affiliate links, no ads.
